Santosh Ram is an Indian Director, Screenwriter and Producer based in Pune , Mumbai. His Filmography includes Vartul (Circle) 2009, Galli (The Lane) 2015 and Prashna (Question ) 2020.He has done his Post Graduation in English Literature. He developed an appreciation for cinema while studying Literature. He has participated in Film Appreciation Course conducted by National Film Archive of India in collaboration with Film and Television Institute of India 2006 . He Participated in a six month Film making course conducted by Cine fusion , Pune . He was selected for a Six Month course in City Narratives In Cinema and Literature conducted by Majlis and Max Mueller Bhavan , Mumbai . His debut Short film, Vartul (Circle) traveled to over Fifty-Six Film Festivals across the world including 11th Osian's Cine fan Film Festival, New Delhi (India), International Documentary and Short Film Festival Of Kerala and 17th Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival (Canada), Winning Thirteen Awards .The film is inspired by a true event that moulded his religious, social and political ideology while growing up. His Second Short Film Galli (The Lane) 2015 - Selection in over Twelve Film Festivals across the world. He is one of the Curators For 11th Vibgyor Film Festival 2016 Thirussur (India). Prashna (Question) 2020 is shortlisted for Filmfare short Film Awards 2020 and Officially Selected in Twenty Seven Film Festivals all Over the World Winning Fourteen Awards . Santosh Ram Won The Iris Award Special Mention ( Writing ) For Prashna (Question) at Unicef Innocenti Film Festival 2021 Florence , Italy . Prashna (Question) won Diploma of the international competition of short feature films "For the development of education in remote areas" at 9th Zero Plus International Film Festival 2022 in the city of Tyumen (Russia).
Santosh Ram, originally from Dongarshelki, was raised in Udgir, located in the Latur district. He attended Lal Bahadur Shastri Vidyalaya in Udgir during his schooling years and was an average student. Driven by his own aspirations, he pursued his graduation in Literature from Maharashtra Udaygiri Mahavidyalaya in Udgir. Subsequently, he completed his Masters at Modern College in Pune.
During his time in Kolhapur, Santosh was exposed to theatrical plays, igniting his interest in the performing arts. He further honed his skills by attending acting workshops conducted by renowned theater personality, Pundit Satyadev Dubey. His passion for the film industry led him to assist in various capacities at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), earning him the affectionate title of "FTII Canteen Passout."
Santosh's dedication to cinema prompted him to explore world cinema and study the works of masters at the Film Archives of India. He became an active member of film clubs and film circles, regularly attending cinema screenings at various film festivals in Pune. His love for films was unwavering, and during his stay in Pune, he resided at Mahatma Phule Hostel while pursuing his studies.
