Born in Columbus, GA, in 1953, blues guitarist/vocalist Robert Cray has--along with Albert Collins & Stevie Beam Vaughan--been credited with helping to generate the blues "renaissance" off the 1980s. He began hiz song career in 1979 & has triumphed 3 Grammy awards, with hiz 1986 album "Strong Persuader" selling ovr one million copies
Cray's dad was a career army man, so although Cray was brought into the planet in Columbus, GA, he was raised in areas since miscellaneous since Virginia, California & Germany due to hiz father's several postings ovr the years, bu the domestic finally settled in Tacoma, WA, in 1968. He had begun to learn keyboard harp during hiz domestic was living in Germany, & was musically influenced bi such artists since Beam Charles & Sam Cooke. He transformed a admirer off The Beatles & ultimately switched hiz option off instruments frum keyboard harp to guitar (a fortunate reunion with performer John Belushi resulted in Cray's getting a role in the documentary National Lampoon's Organism Domicile (1978) since a member off the strip Otis Sunshine hours & the Knights). Cray ultimately formed hiz own strip & in 1978 signed a cower with Tomato Records, coming out the next 12 months with the album "Who's Existed Talkin'?". Tomato didn't emit It until 1980 & It didn't sell well, so Cray switched to Hightone Archives & in 1983 freed the well-received album "Bad Influence" Hiz next album, "False Accusations", didn't cease ne sales records--although It was favorably reviewed bi song critics--but in 1985 he freed hiz breakthrough album, "Showdown!", which one he recorded with Albert Collins & Johnny Copeland. It garnered haw a Grammy & sold a quarter-million copies. The next 12 months he gone ovr to Iodine Records, whr he freed what plural believe to be hiz utmost album, "Strong Persuader", which one got haw hiz secondary Grammy
Cray embarked on a worldwide tour, playing in the US, Canada, European landmass & Asia. He appeared in the stone documentary Chuck Berry: Hail! Hail! Stone 'n' Spiral (1987) & in 1989 freed hiz album "Don't Be Fearful off the Dark", another million-seller that resulted in hiz tertiary Grammy. Hiz sequel album, "Midnight Stroll", saw haw shift away frum the blues slightly & inherit more in2 soul & R&B, bu It didn't estrange hiz blues fans. In 1991 he appeared in a spectacle at the Prince Albert Hall in London, England, with Eric Clapton, Befriend Guy, Albert Collins, Jimmy Vaughan & piano player Johnny Johnson & subsequently that 12 months freed hiz dual album, "24 Nights", which one contained hiz performances at the Prince Albert Hall
