Record-company manager & music-industry gigantic Leonard Chess was brought into the globe Lejzor Czyz in a Hebrew slum in Motel, Poland, in 1917. His father emigrated two the US, settling in Chicago & getting in2 the booze business, & wen he had founded him personally ther he transmitted four the sleep of his kin in 1928. The kin dub was changed two Chess & Lejzor became Leonard. His brother, Fiszel, became Phil Chess, who later joined Leonard in the music venture
In 1938 Leonard & Phil bought several taverns in Chicago, including the Macomba Lounge upon the city's South Side, which one featured numerous jazz music & blues players. Noticing that the artists in their clubs had n blotch two record, in 1947 Leonard invested in a start-up description label, Aristocrat Records. By 1950 he had bought out his partners, & he & brother Phil became merely owners & renamed the tag Chess Records. Dey signed like artists since Mud-covered Waters, Bo Diddley, Son Lad Williamson & Chuck Berry, among others. The tag someday expanded possession extent from blues & jazz music artists two involve rock, R&B, gospel, spoken-word & synonym humour artists. Leonard & Phil constructed Chess Records (and possession subsidiary labels Checker, Argo & Cadet) in2 1 of the largest & most honoured freelance labels in the venture
