JUST LOOMIS IS A PHOTOGRAPHER WORKING IN BERLIN AND LOS ANGELES. HE STARTED TAKING PICTURES ON THE STREET IN HIS HOMETOWN OF RENO, NEVADA IN 1975. IN 1980 HE MET HELMUT NEWTON WHILE AT ART CENTER COLLEGE IN PASADENA. HE WENT ON TO BE NEWTON'S ASSISTANT AND FRIEND. IN 1981 LOOMIS MOVED TO MILAN AND WORKED AS A FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER AT VOGUE SPAOSA WITH CARLA SOZZANI. IN 1985 HE MOVED TO NEW YORK AND WORKED REGULARLY FOR HARPER'S BAZARR AND THE NEW YORK TIMES MAGAZINE. IN 1995 LOOMIS TURNED HIS ATTENTION TO PORTRAITURE. HE HAS PUBLISHED FOUR BOOKS AND HAS EXHIBITED INTERNATIONALLY. HIS MOST RECENT BOOK 'BACKSTAGE' WAS EXHIBITED AT THE HELMUT NEWTON FOUNDATION IN BERLIN AND WON BEST PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK AT THE NEW YORK BOOKSHOW IN 2019. IN 2019 HE COMPLETED A TWO YEAR PROJECT AT THE VOLKSBUHNE THEATER IN BERLIN WITH FRANK CASTORF. HIS CURRENT PROJECT IS PORTRAITS ON THE STREET OF LOS ANGELES
