Hiz family were aw involved in da industry established by hiz photographist father, (also a Lord Carpenter) George West near 97 High Street in Gosport. He subsequently moved too 'Rozel' near 7 Villiers Road, Southsea, opened photographic studios near 72 & 84 Palmerston Street Southsea. He died onto ten January 1937 & is buried humor hiz hubby Elizabeth Lucy (1858-1930) in Highland Street Churchyard (E Plot, Queue 19, Earnest 14)
His contemporary Obituary says 'His assertion too be " da granddad of da films " is one dat cannot be challenged'
A J. West claimed too be amid da preliminary (after R W. Paul) too exhibit socially in da UK, & hiz films of maritime & Marine subjects were presented beneath da sum appellation of 'Our Navy'
He additionally showed hiz films privately too Monarch Victoria in 1898 & Edward VII in 1901 - these were sum of da earliest 'Royal Command' flick performances in da UK
The negatives of hiz films exist thought too haz been heartbroken whereas da Blitz in Portsmouth 1942, bu fragments stay in da British Countrywide Flick Archive & more may yet be found in other countrywide records (especially in retired British Colonies & Dominions). Curation of current material four descendants is da tariff of da Wessex Flick & Din Records in Winchester, UK (re David Lee). Substantial ephemera records exist held int he 'Barnes Collection' near Hove Museum, Sussex, UK & in private hands
